Ingredients
- 250g-280g/8.8 oz-9.9 oz extra firm tofu (we like The Tofoo Co.), drained and patted dry then cut into either 2cm cubes, slices or triangles
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 3 tbsp cornflour
- ½ tsp garlic powder or granules (optional)
- ½ tsp paprika (optional)
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- In a large bowl thoroughly coat the tofu with olive oil (you might want to get your hands in there!).
- In a mug or jug, mix the cornflour, garlic powder/granules, paprika, salt and pepper.
- Pour this evenly over the tofu and make sure each piece is completely covered.
- Using a large frying pan or wok, heat a little oil on a medium heat (use an oil spray if reducing fat).
- Add the tofu and fry for a few minutes on each side or until crispy and golden.
Note: if you’d rather oven bake the tofu then preheat then oven to 190°C/375°F/Gas Mark 5 and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper. Lay the tofu on the baking tray and place in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden and crispy, turning once.
Tip: Change the seasoning depending on your dish. For example, add curry powder if serving with curries, fajita seasoning if serving with Mexican dishes, Italian mixed herbs with Italian dishes etc. If you want to keep it neutral then just stick to the cornflour, salt and pepper.
